Offline Parasite Marketing
In my article How To Be An Ethical Parasite Marketer I talk about how you can drive traffic
to your blog or website by attaching yourself to existing traffic sources and thereby get exposure.
Experienced parasite marketers can in this mannerer get up to 200 to 300 new subscribers
per source they leech from.
All in an ethical and welcome manner when done right.
In this article I will talk about the sneakier
and more risky “Offline Parasite Marketing”
The goal is still the same, get exposure for your blog or website on something that gets a lot of eyes
on it and preferably also changes hands, several times a day.
Since most of these techniques are more towards a guerrilla style marketing. The parasite being small,
needs to take particular care not to overdo it or might risk getting sued.
Enjoy the off-line parasite marketing techniques and be smart about implementing them.
#1 Leeching on Free News Magazines
One of the latest trends in news magazine publishing is giving the magazine away for free. They are
normally given out at places where lots of people pass everyday like commuter and subway stations.
At communication hubs like big railroad stations, bus stations etc.
The early rising parasite gets up to go out and commute on the buses, trains and subways taking
with him a couple of free magazines of the day. He also brings some easy to eat breakfast like
sandwiches and perhaps some coffee, tea or similar to drink.
Taking one of the earliest possible commuting options accompanied with his breakfast and the
most important piece of equipment, a blue or red ink pen. He then sits himself down on the
commuting option of choice.
Well on the bus, train or subway train at a place with as few people as possible he gets to work.
The first page off the magazine he picked up gets a lot of views every day so he takes out his
pen and at the top part at the top edge, just above the magazine name he makes an arrow
followed by his website or blog URL.
Ex) => http://www.Your-Url-Here.com and he repeats this for all the magaziens he brought.
He then proceeds to reading the magazines hunting for a story to blog about or otherwise use at his website.
If found the parasite marketer either rips that article out or takes the entire magazine home.
Having read the magazine it’s now time for the parasite to get off and swap commuting options.
But before leaving he spreads his now marked magazines around on the bus, train or commuting option.
This to increase the spread of its leeching.
He then repeats the process a couple of times on different commuting options and then on his way home, finishes his breakfast.
Since the nature of these magazines are that they usually gets left behind in the commuting option like
bus or train people that are in a morning rush and don’t have a chance to pick up a free news magazine
will find and read the magazine.
Since there normally isn’t anything out of the ordinary on the front page our reader will be looking at your website URL.
If you have a good headline that creates curiosity and is targeted you have a good chance that the
reader will visit your site if he or she has an interest in what your headline tells him or her about.
This process is then repeated when the magazine changes hands, provided that the person looking
at the link doesn’t rip it out of the magazine but don’t be mad at him or her for doing so. If that is the case,
you are sure to get a leech visit to your blog or website!
#2 Leeching On Money
This leeching method takes a small investment in the form of buying a rubberstamp with your url on it.
Ink your rubber stamp and then stamp all off your paper money on both sides.
This makes your URL display on both sides of the money, and money changes hands an insane number of times a day.
The more money that you stamp, the more money will be advertising your URL for free and the higher
the chances are that you’ll get leeched traffic that way.
#3 Safety Awareness For The Offline Parasite Marketer
The off-line parasite marketer needs to be aware that this is a riskier way off leeching than leeching online.
But done sparingly with common sense should prove less risky, although no guarantees are made and you
use these techniques on your own risk.
There are quite a lot of ways to do off-line parasite marketing, please comment
with additional ways to do off-line parasite marketing if you know of any.
